Cardiac Care Oil Retention Therapy

Hriddhara & Hridbasti in Bhopal

A specialized therapy where warm, medicated oil is retained over the heart region to relieve muscular chest pain, reduce the risk of cardiac events, and promote a sense of calm.

What is Hriddhara & Hridbasti?

Hrid Basti is an external basti treatment in which a ring of dough is placed over the chest, in the region of the heart (hridaya), and filled with warm medicated oil that is held there for a time. Hriddhara is a related therapy in which a stream of warm medicated liquid is poured over the same area.

In Ayurveda, both are used as gentle, supportive therapies for the chest region and for a sense of calm.

How Hriddhara & Hridbasti is done at Sattva

Every therapy at Sattva begins with a consultation. Our physician reviews your health history, diet and lifestyle and uses traditional methods such as pulse diagnosis (Nadi Pariksha) to understand your constitution, then decides whether Hriddhara & Hridbasti is right for you and which preparation to use. Panchakarma at Sattva is medically supervised.

You lie on your back. For Hrid Basti, the dough ring is fixed on the chest and filled with warm oil, which is re-warmed to keep it comfortable. For Hriddhara, the warm liquid is poured gently over the chest. The physician decides which is suitable.

Who may benefit from Hriddhara & Hridbasti?

Our clinic describes these therapies as relieving muscular chest pain and promoting a sense of calm. After assessment, they may be considered for people who:

  • Have chest-wall muscle tightness or discomfort that a doctor has already checked
  • Want a calming, supportive therapy as part of a wider plan

Whether Hriddhara & Hridbasti is suitable for you is decided by the physician after your consultation. Please tell us about pregnancy, recent surgery or injury, fever, skin problems, allergies, heart conditions and any medicines you take.

Chest pain can be a sign of a heart attack. If you have chest pain, breathlessness or sweating, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately. These therapies do not replace cardiology care, and you should keep taking prescribed medicines.

What to expect

Your visit starts with a consultation, after which the therapy is carried out in the therapy room. Afterwards you can rest before going home, and the therapist will give you simple aftercare advice. The length of each session and the number of sittings vary from person to person; your physician will explain them in your treatment plan.
