Fermented Cereal Grain Stream Therapy

Dhanyamla Dhara in Bhopal

A specialized therapy utilizing a fermented cereal grain decoction to treat inflammatory diseases and Vata disorders like rheumatoid arthritis by eliminating metabolic toxins.

What is Dhanyamla Dhara?

Dhanyamla is a sour, fermented liquid traditionally prepared from grains such as rice and horse gram. In Dhanyamla Dhara, this warm liquid is poured in a continuous stream over the whole body or one part of it.

Because it is not oil-based, it is classically preferred when Ama (undigested metabolic waste) and Kapha are prominent and oil therapies are not yet suitable. Our clinic describes its use for inflammatory and Vata disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, by eliminating metabolic toxins.

How Dhanyamla Dhara is done at Sattva

Every therapy at Sattva begins with a consultation. Our physician reviews your health history, diet and lifestyle and uses traditional methods such as pulse diagnosis (Nadi Pariksha) to understand your constitution, then decides whether Dhanyamla Dhara is right for you and which preparation to use. Panchakarma at Sattva is medically supervised.

You lie on the therapy table while the warm Dhanyamla is poured from vessels and the therapists stroke the body. The liquid is collected and re-warmed so that the stream stays warm. It is often used before oil-based therapies in a treatment plan.

Who may benefit from Dhanyamla Dhara?

After assessment, it may be considered for people with:

  • Joint pain, stiffness and swelling, alongside their regular medical care
  • Heaviness and stiffness where the physician wants to avoid oil at first

Whether Dhanyamla Dhara is suitable for you is decided by the physician after your consultation. Please tell us about pregnancy, recent surgery or injury, fever, skin problems, allergies, heart conditions and any medicines you take.

It does not replace treatment by a rheumatologist. Continue prescribed medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise.

What to expect

Your visit starts with a consultation, after which the therapy is carried out in the therapy room. Afterwards you can rest before going home, and the therapist will give you simple aftercare advice. The length of each session and the number of sittings vary from person to person; your physician will explain them in your treatment plan.

Dhanyamla Dhara: frequently asked questions

Do I need a consultation before Dhanyamla Dhara?

Yes. An appointment is required for all consultations and treatments. Your first consultation covers your health history, diet and lifestyle, and includes traditional pulse diagnosis (Nadi Pariksha), so that the physician can decide whether Dhanyamla Dhara is suitable for you.

Does Dhanyamla smell?

It has a mild sour smell from fermentation. It is washed off afterwards.

Why use a fermented liquid instead of oil?

In Ayurveda, oil can be heavy when Ama and Kapha are high. Dhanyamla is light and warm, so it is often used first, with oil therapies introduced later if needed.
